​A meeting of State Level Committee on Standardization was held under the Chairmanship of  Sh. Rajeev Verma, Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh. The Committee aims to promote use of Indian Standards to create a robust quality system in the UT and protect the interest of the consumers. 

A detailed presentation was given by Smt. Sneh Lata, Deputy Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards (North India). ​The Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh directed all public dealing departments to obtain Anti Bribery Management System (IS0 37001) certification. He further directed to make plans for implementation of Service Quality Management System (SQMS) across all departments. Commissioner, Municipal Corporation & Estate office, in particular were asked to  implement Record Management system to smoothen their record especially the old ones. 

The Chief Secretary applauded the efforts of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh for their initiative of applying for  certification for Piped Drinking Water Management System in Chandigarh. If this certificate is obtained, Chandigarh will be the first in country, to have this certification. It will ensure that the water being supplied to residents of Chandigarh complies to the requirements of Potable Drinking Water (IS 10500) for well being of all residents.

​​Chief Engineer, UT Chandigarh was directed to implement Building Byelaws specific for Chandigarh i.e. SP 73 developed by BIS and to implement Energy Management system in Chandigarh. To ensure capacity building of UT officials, Chief Secretary directed all departments to nominate a nodal officer (not below the rank of HoD’s) who shall further be imparted training by BIS in order to leverage the result of ensuring quality and attaining the satisfaction of the public service at large. 

Further, Chief Secretary directed all departments to ensure the compliance of all Quality control Orders (QCOs). Secretary Industries was directed to conduct more awareness programs for all Industry specially MSMEs.  It was also directed that General Public be made aware of BIS Care App which confirms genunity and authenticity of product and precious metals such as Gold and silver. 

The meeting was attended by all the Administrative Secretaries of Chandigarh Administration including Home Secretary, Finance Secretary, Secretary Food & Supplies and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration. Representatives from industries, consumer organizations, and academia also participated.
