In preparation for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations, the Commissioner Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS convened a high-level review meeting to finalize arrangements for a citywide Deep Cleaning Drive aimed at ensuring a clean, green and hygienic urban environment.

The Commissioner announced that the intensive Deep Cleaning Drive will be conducted from August 8 to August 16, 2026, as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. He emphasized that every department must work in close coordination to enhance sanitation, beautification and maintenance of public spaces so that Chandigarh reflects the true spirit of patriotism and civic pride during the national celebrations.

Senior officers from the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh Police, Engineering Wings and other stakeholder departments attended the meeting. Detailed directions were issued for coordinated action, intensive cleanliness operations, waste removal, road and public area maintenance, and regular monitoring to ensure that residents and visitors experience a spotless, well-maintained and welcoming city throughout the Independence Day festivities.

Reinforcing the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh's commitment to responsive governance and timely execution of development works, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora today chaired a comprehensive ward-wise review meeting with councillors and senior engineering officials to assess the progress of ongoing projects and address civic issues in Wards No. 7, 8, 11, 24, 25 and 26.

The meeting was attended by the concerned area councillors, Executive Engineers and officials of various engineering wings of the Municipal Corporation.

Detailed deliberations were held on ward-specific development works, including road infrastructure, public health, water supply, sewerage, street lighting, sanitation and other civic amenities. The councillors highlighted local issues and public grievances requiring immediate attention.

The Chief Engineer directed the concerned Executive Engineers to expedite all ongoing development works and ensure their completion within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining quality standards. He emphasized that public grievances must be addressed promptly through regular field inspections and close coordination with elected representatives.

Reiterating the importance of the Municipal Corporation's Ward review mechanism, the Chief Engineer said such interactions enable better coordination, faster decision-making and effective monitoring of development projects, ensuring efficient delivery of civic services and improved public satisfaction across the city.

Resident Welfare Association (RWA) organised a Van Mahotsav plantation programme today at Park No. 1, Sector 10-D, Chandigarh, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing the city's green cover and promoting environmental sustainability.

Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Chandigarh, Sh. Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, Councillor, Sh. Sanjay Arora, Chief Engineer, MC Chandigarh, Mrs. Mona Narang, Principal, DAV College, Chandigarh, along with Resident Welfare Association (RWA) members, local residents and a large number of school children.

On the occasion, the dignitaries planted saplings and appealed to citizens to actively participate in protecting and nurturing trees for a cleaner, greener and healthier Chandigarh. The Commissioner emphasised that tree plantation is not merely a one-day activity but a continuous commitment towards environmental conservation. He urged residents, especially the younger generation, to take responsibility for caring for the saplings and preserving the city's rich green heritage.

The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents and children, who joined hands with Municipal Corporation officials in planting saplings and spreading awareness about the importance of environmental protection. The event also highlighted the role of community participation in making Chandigarh more sustainable and climate resilient.

Chandigarh, today organized the Prize Distribution Ceremony for the winners of the Essay Writing Competition on "Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency", which was conducted earlier on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026. The competition was organized to create awareness among employees regarding the importance of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The prizes were distributed by Er. C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, U.T. Chandigarh who congratulated the winners and appreciated their valuable contributions towards promoting energy conservation. He emphasized that awareness and behavioural change are key to achieving sustainable energy use.

The winners of the competition are, First Prize, Sh. Jatin Bisht, Clerk, Electrical Wing, Second Prize: Sh. Harpreet Singh, Junior Engineer, Electricity Wing (SLDC), Third Prize: Sh. Raman Kumar, Junior Engineer, Electricity Wing (STU).

Prime Minister to Virtually Address Youth under ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ on 2nd August 2026

Chandigarh, 31 July 2026: MY Bharat, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Administration, is organising this programme under the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ on Sunday, 2nd August 2026 at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh.

The campaign aims to mobilise youth against substance abuse and promote a healthy, responsible and drug-free lifestyle through awareness, sports, culture and community participation, contributing towards the vision of Nasha Mukt Bharat and Viksit Bharat@2047.

A major highlight of the programme will be the virtual address by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to youth across the country. The nationwide programme is expected to connect around 10,000 locations and engage more than one crore youth, including MY Bharat volunteers, MY Bharat-NSS volunteers, Youth Clubs, students of schools, colleges and universities, NGOs and partner organisations.

Participants will collectively take the Nasha Mukti Pledge and commit themselves to a drug-free lifestyle. The programme will also mark the launch of a 100-week nationwide Sunday engagement campaign, featuring sports, fitness, cultural, awareness, mindfulness and community outreach activities.

As part of the campaign, district-level competitions in Group Dance, Group folk songs, mime acts, short films/reels, painting, debate and slogan writing are also being organised on 3rd August 2026 at Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45

Adult Gharial rescued from Indira Gandhi Canal in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan and brought back for rehabilitating and release in Punjab's Beas River CR

An adult male/female Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus), measuring over 12 feet in length, has been successfully rescued from the Indira Gandhi Canal Project (IGNP) in Rajasthan after nearly five months of coordinated monitoring across multiple districts. The animal has been safely transported to Chhatbir Zoo, Punjab, where it will undergo health assessment, rehabilitation and acclimatisation before its planned release into the Beas River Conservation Reserve.

The rescue operation is the culmination of sustained coordination between the Forest Departments of Rajasthan and Punjab, wildlife experts, and field teams that continuously tracked the animal's movements through the extensive canal network.

Background

Punjab has emerged as an important landscape for the conservation of the Critically Endangered Gharial. 94 juvenile Gharial were successfully reintroduced into the Beas River Conservation Reserve through a collaborative conservation programme led by the Punjab Forest Department with technical support from WWF-India and other partner institutions. Since the reintroduction, released individuals have been regularly monitored through scientific surveys and field observations, with encouraging evidence of survival, dispersal and adaptation to the Beas Harike Sutlej River ecosystem.

The rehabilitation and release of rescued Gharials to suitable habitats is an important component of strengthening the recovering population in the Beas River while contributing to the long-term conservation of the species in north-western India.

Rescue Timeline

• The first information regarding the presence of the Gharial in IGNP was received when Chief Wildlife Warden, Rajasthan contacted Chief Wildlife Warden, Punjab on 14 March 2026, following a brief sighting of the animal on 13 March in the Indira Gandhi Canal within Ganganagar district and requested that a rescue team may be sent from Punjab as Rajasthan has very little experience in the rescue and rehabilitation of gharials. Initial assessments and review of photographs and videos indicated that the adult Gharial was moving along an approximately 25 km stretch of the canal, both upstream and downstream. Although rescue efforts were considered, the operation could not be initiated due to the high volume and velocity of water being released through the canal for Rabi irrigation, coupled with the continuous movement of the animal.

• On 5 May 2026, the Gharial was sighted again near the border of Ganganagar and Bikaner districts in the main IGNP canal. Water conditions were comparatively favourable, and all necessary permissions for the rescue operation were secured. However, just before the Punjab Forest Department rescue team commenced its rescue operation, the animal was reported to have moved further downstream. In the absence of confirmed sightings over the following days by the Rajasthan Forest Department, the rescue operation was temporarily suspended until the animal could be relocated.

• The Gharial was sighted once again towards the end of June 2026 in the IGNP Stage-II canal, further downstream from its previous location. Despite confirmation of its presence, rescue could not be attempted as the canal continued to carry a strong current and a high volume of water, making capture unsafe for both the animal and the rescue team.

• On 27 July 2026, the animal was finally located in the Mohangarh Minor in Jaisalmer district, where water levels and flow conditions were suitable the adult Gharial, measuring more than 12 feet in length was successfully rescued. 

• Following the successful rescue, the adult Gharial was temporarily housed at Rajasthan Forest Department Facility in Mohangarh, Rajasthan, where it underwent initial rehabilitation, veterinary examination and health assessment. After being certified fit for transport and following established safety protocols of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and IUCN guidelines for crocodilian capture, handling and transportation, the animal was safely transferred to Chhatbir Zoo, Punjab, for further rehabilitation, acclimatisation and comprehensive health screening. 

• Following assessment and approval by wildlife authorities, the animal is proposed to be released into the Beas River Conservation Reserve, further strengthening the recovering Gharial population in Punjab.

Conservation Significance

This successful rescue demonstrates the importance of sustained inter-state collaboration among the Forest Departments, continuous field surveillance by the field teams, guidance by the subject experts and rapid coordination among wildlife managers of Rajasthan and Punjab. Large river reptiles such as Gharials frequently move through interconnected river and canal systems, making coordinated conservation efforts across state boundaries essential for their long-term survival.

The proposed release into the Beas River Conservation Reserve represents another significant milestone in the ongoing recovery of one of India's most endangered freshwater reptiles and reinforces the commitment of the Punjab Forest Department and its conservation partners (WWF-India) towards securing viable populations of Gharials in the north-western region of the country.

Government Polytechnic for Women, Sector 10-D, Chandigarh, has achieved a major milestone by securing Grade A, the highest accreditation awarded by the Quality Council of India (QCI) through the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) for its Diploma in Pharmacy programme during the institutional assessment for the academic year 2025–26.

The accreditation was awarded following a rigorous three-stage evaluation comprising a desktop assessment, an on-site assessment and the overall institutional performance. The assessment process was undertaken under the guidance of the Secretary, Technical Education and the Directorate of Technical Education, Chandigarh Administration.

* To promote fitness and encourage a healthy lifestyle among citizens, an Open Air Gym developed under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund at an approximate cost of ₹2.43 lakh was inaugurated today at Leisure Valley, Sector 10, Chandigarh by Sh. Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament, UT, Chandigarh.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Sh. Mahesh Inder Sidhu, Councillor, Ward No. 2, MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, representatives of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), officials of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and other distinguished guests.

MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora inspected the Japanese Garden, Sector 31 along with Superintending Engineer, Horticulture, Sh. Pritpal Singh and other Municipal Corporation officials to review the garden's maintenance and visitor facilities.

During the inspection, the Chief Engineer directed officials to undertake comprehensive improvement works, including repairs to the entrance, pathways, signboards and lighting, extensive grass cutting and weed removal, installation of standardised dustbins, display boards, track markers and park timings, and enhancement of sculptures, pagoda and hut lighting.

He also instructed officials to ensure functional CCTV surveillance, install a visitor feedback register, improve security by closing unauthorised entry points, and complete all maintenance works in a time-bound manner.

Sh. Sanjay Arora emphasised that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh remains committed to maintaining high-quality public parks and providing a safe, clean and pleasant environment for visitors.

कॉन्फेडरेशन ऑफ ऑल इंडिया ट्रेडर्स (CAIT), चंडीगढ़ चैप्टर ने प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा चंडीगढ़ में विभिन्न विकास परियोजनाओं के उद्घाटन एवं शिलान्यास का स्वागत करते हुए इसे विकसित भारत के संकल्प को साकार करने वाला ऐतिहासिक कदम बताया है।

महासचिव श्री भीम सेन ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री का विकसित भारत का विज़न प्रत्येक व्यापारी और नागरिक को सशक्त बनाने का संकल्प है। बेहतर आधारभूत ढांचा और आधुनिक सुविधाएं व्यापार को नई ऊंचाइयों तक पहुंचाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएंगी।

CAIT चंडीगढ़ चैप्टर ने केंद्र सरकार से आग्रह किया कि जिस प्रकार चंडीगढ़ को विकास का राष्ट्रीय मॉडल बनाने की दिशा में निरंतर कार्य किया जा रहा है, उसी प्रकार व्यापार एवं उद्योग से जुड़े बुनियादी ढांचे को भी और अधिक सुदृढ़ किया जाए। संगठन ने व्यापार सुगमता, पार्किंग व्यवस्था, आधुनिक लॉजिस्टिक्स, डिजिटल व्यापारिक सुविधाओं, एमएसएमई को प्रोत्साहन तथा व्यापारियों की लंबित समस्याओं के शीघ्र समाधान की अपेक्षा व्यक्त की।

चंडीगढ़: प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के आगामी चंडीगढ़ दौरे से पहले शहर की बुनियादी समस्याओं को लेकर चर्चा तेज हो गई है। आम आदमी पार्टी के प्रदेश मीडिया प्रभारी विक्रांत ए. तनवर ने मांग की है कि इस दौरे पर केवल भाषण और उद्घाटन के बजाय शहर को ठोस विकास का तोहफा मिलना चाहिए। चंडीगढ़ इस समय पानी के बढ़े बिल, प्रॉपर्टी टैक्स, डड्डूमाजरा डंपिंग ग्राउंड, कचरा प्रबंधन और ट्रैफिक जाम जैसी गंभीर समस्याओं से जूझ रहा है। इसके साथ ही दो साल पहले मनीमाजरा में शुरू हुई 24 घंटे जलापूर्ति योजना के क्रियान्वयन पर भी सवाल उठाए जा रहे हैं। शहरवासियों को उम्मीद है कि इस दौरे से इन सभी नागरिक समस्याओं का कोई स्थायी समाधान निकलेगा।

The Chandigarh Red Cross Society organised a Blood Donation Camp at the U.T. Secretariat Building, Sector 9-D, Chandigarh today.

The camp was inaugurated by Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Engineering, Chandigarh Administration, and Sh. Amandeep Singh Bhatti, PCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Chandigarh Red Cross Society. They were welcomed by Ms. Punam Malik, Nodal Officer-cum-Superintendent, Chandigarh Red Cross Society.

A blood collection team from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Ravneet Kaur, Director Principal, GMCH-32, was present throughout the camp to facilitate blood collection and ensure the smooth conduct of the donation process.

Other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration including Sh. C. B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, along with Superintending Engineers and other senior officials of the U.T. Secretariat, were also present on the occasion and encouraged voluntary blood donation.

Vishvas Foundation extended valuable support by providing refreshments and gifts to the voluntary blood donors, contributing significantly to the success of the camp.

The camp witnessed an enthusiastic response, with more than 50 units of blood collected from voluntary donors.

The Chandigarh Red Cross Society expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all the voluntary blood donors, the GMCH-32 team, Vishvas Foundation and all officers and officials whose support and participation made the camp a success.

The Department of Industries, Chandigarh Administration has launched an extensive drive to bring 30,000 unregistered Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) into the formal economy under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Programme.

RAMP is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, supported by the World Bank. The programme aims to strengthen MSMEs by enhancing access to finance, improving market linkages and supporting enterprise growth.

Under this initiative, unregistered MSMEs across Chandigarh, including manufacturing units, service providers and traders, will be facilitated in obtaining free Udyam Registration, the Government of India’s official MSME recognition system. Formalisation will enable businesses to access institutional credit and Government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) and Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), while enhancing their credibility and growth prospects.

To ensure effective implementation, the Department has engaged Forvis Mazars LLP as the Implementing Agency. Trained survey teams will undertake field visits across industrial areas, commercial markets and business clusters to identify unregistered enterprises and provide free, on-the-spot facilitation for Udyam Registration.

The Department has urged all MSME owners and traders to extend full cooperation to the survey teams by providing the required information to ensure maximum participation in the programme. PGIMER Chandigarh Leads Complex Spine Trauma Care for Acclaimed Cinematographer George Richmond Following Himachal Paragliding Accident

*Advanced Multidisciplinary Trauma Response Reflects Institute's Preparedness for the Most Complex Emergencies: Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER*

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has successfully undertaken the multidisciplinary management of renowned *British cinematographer George Richmond,* best known for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine, following a devastating cervical spine injury sustained during a paragliding accident in Himachal Pradesh.

The 54-year-old cinematographer suffered a catastrophic spinal injury comprising a fracture of the C1 vertebra along with a fracture-dislocation at the C5-C6 level, resulting in quadriplegia. Such injuries represent one of the most severe forms of spinal trauma, carrying a significant risk of life-threatening respiratory compromise due to the proximity of spinal segments controlling diaphragmatic function.

Following rescue and evacuation efforts, including support from the Indian Air Force, Mr. Richmond was brought to the Advanced Trauma Centre, PGIMER Chandigarh, in the early hours of June 9 and was admitted under the care of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Immediate resuscitation was initiated in accordance with Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) protocols. Following comprehensive clinical and radiological assessment, the patient was stabilized and transferred to the High Dependency Unit for intensive monitoring and further management.

Highlighting the significance of the case and PGIMER's capability in handling highly complex trauma emergencies, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER,* said, "At PGIMER, our foremost commitment is to provide timely, compassionate and world-class medical care to every patient who comes to us, irrespective of nationality, background or circumstance. Once the patient had been adequately stabilized and optimized for surgery, definitive operative intervention was planned through an extensive multidisciplinary collaboration involving orthopaedic spine surgeons, neurosurgeons, anaesthesiologists, critical care specialists, rehabilitation experts and highly trained paramedical personnel.

Providing details of the surgical management, *Prof. Vijay G. Goni, Head, Department of Orthopaedics, PGIMER* , stated, "The patient presented with a highly complex cervical spine fracture-dislocation associated with significant neurological impairment. Following detailed evaluation and stabilization, a carefully planned surgical strategy was executed. A major milestone was achieved through fluoroscopy-guided closed reduction of the cervical fracture-dislocation, a technically demanding procedure that successfully restored spinal alignment and eliminated the need for a combined anterior and posterior surgery, thereby reducing surgical morbidity. Following satisfactory reduction, definitive anterior cervical decompression, reconstruction and stabilization were carried out to restore spinal stability and protect neurological function."

The surgery was led by *Dr. Vishal Kumar, Additional Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery , and involved removal of the damaged intervertebral disc and fractured elements causing neural compression. Reconstruction was performed using an interbody cage packed with bone graft substitute material, followed by stabilization with a cervical plate and screws.

Following surgery, Mr. Richmond was monitored in the postoperative recovery unit before being shifted to the Postoperative Intensive Care Unit. Throughout the perioperative period, internationally accepted protocols and evidence-based standards for the management of severe cervical spine injuries were meticulously followed.

Mr. Richmond is *presently stable, conscious and communicating effectively* . He continues to remain under close observation by a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising doctors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists and allied healthcare professionals. Early mobilization in a wheelchair has been planned as part of his comprehensive rehabilitation programme.

The successful management of this exceptionally complex and potentially life-threatening injury stands as a testament to PGIMER's advanced trauma care capabilities, world-class surgical expertise and collaborative multidisciplinary approach. *Chandigarh, June 10:-* Reinforcing its commitment towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today organized a Special Sensitization Workshop for Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) under the chairmanship of Sh. Balbir Raj, Joint Commissioner, MC Chandigarh. The workshop was attended by Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, Medical Officer of Health, senior officials and representatives of various institutions, residential societies and commercial establishments across the city.

The participants were sensitized about the key provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, which came into effect in April 2026. Detailed deliberations were held on scientific waste management practices, responsibilities of Bulk Waste Generators, source segregation and compliance requirements.

Special emphasis was laid on mandatory 4-way segregation of waste at source, including biodegradable, dry recyclable, domestic hazardous and sanitary waste. The participants were also guided on safe handling and disposal of domestic hazardous waste.

Addressing the gathering, the Joint Commissioner highlighted the crucial role of Bulk Waste Generators in strengthening Chandigarh’s waste management ecosystem and urged all stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with the Rules. Dr. Inderdeep Kaur stressed the importance of decentralized waste management and effective source segregation for environmental sustainability.

The participants were advised to complete their registration on the CPCB’s centralized portal and adopt best waste management practices. The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh also announced a series of awareness programmes with RWAs, market associations and commercial establishments to further promote scientific waste management and public participation across the city.

 *The 33rd International Public Health Management Development Program (IPHMDP) was inaugurated at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, by Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER Chandigarh, and Mr. Viraj Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in the presence of 43 clinical and public health professionals from 20 countries.* The inauguration marked the decennial celebration of the globally recognized flagship program that has trained nearly 1,700 healthcare professionals, administrators, and public health leaders from 97 countries in 10 years, emerging as an important platform for India’s public health diplomacy, South-South cooperation, and global knowledge exchange.

*Chandigarh, May 20:-* Continuing its strict action against illegal encroachments and unauthorized occupation of public spaces, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out intensive anti-encroachment drives in various parts of the city including Burail, Sector 40/41 markets and Bank Square Sector 17.

 During the special enforcement operations, a total of 64 challans were issued against violators for causing obstruction and inconvenience in public areas.

The drives were conducted by the Enforcement Wing of MC Chandigarh with the objective of ensuring smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles, maintaining cleanliness and preventing illegal occupation of roads, market corridors and other public spaces.

In Burail, MCC teams along with the Engineering Wing conducted a special drive near the Motor Market and Kabari shops situated on Phirni Road. The action was initiated against illegal dumping of scrap material and unserviceable vehicles on public roads and vacant spaces.

During the drive, encroachments were removed and 22 challans were issued against violators. MC officials stated that such illegal dumping and encroachments were creating traffic congestion, damaging public infrastructure and causing inconvenience to commuters and local residents.

In another last-night enforcement drive conducted in Sector 40 and Sector 41 markets under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Gupta, the enforcement teams cleared market corridors and removed goods and articles placed illegally outside shops. A total of 27 challans were issued during the operation against shopkeepers found violating civic norms.

Similarly, at Bank Square Sector 17, MC teams removed illegal fruit vendors and unauthorized roti/rice vendors occupying public spaces and obstructing pedestrian movement. During the drive, 15 challans were issued against violators.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reiterated that anti-encroachment drives will continue regularly in different parts of the city to keep roads, markets and public places clean, accessible and free from unauthorized occupation.

Appealing to shopkeepers, vendors and residents, the MC urged all stakeholders to avoid encroaching upon public spaces and cooperate with the Corporation in maintaining cleanliness, public convenience and civic discipline across the city.

*Chandigarh, May 20:-* Acting in compliance with the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today launched a special drive for removal of non-biodegradable material from the dumping site at Dadumajra. The intensive drive will continue from 20th May to 23rd May, 2026.

MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora personally initiated the process of collection and removal of non-biodegradable waste material at the dumping site. The drive witnessed active participation of officials and staff from various wings of the Municipal Corporation, including Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, SDEs and Safaimitras from the Public Health Wing, Horticulture Wing, Sanitation Department and B&R Wing.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Engineer informed that the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to clear the entire dumping site of all non-biodegradable material.

He further stated that after segregation and removal from the dump site, the collected non-biodegradable waste is being transported to the dry waste processing plant for its scientific processing and environmentally safe disposal.

Sh. Sanjay Arora emphasized that MCC is committed towards scientific waste management and ensuring environmental sustainability in the city. He added that the Corporation is making all-out efforts to improve the condition of the Dadumajra dumping site through systematic waste segregation, disposal and remediation measures.

The Chief Engineer also appreciated the efforts of field staff and Safaimitras engaged in the drive and directed all concerned officers to ensure smooth and timely completion of the special operation.

Chandigarh, May 14, 2026:

Sh. H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, today reviewed the functioning of the Transport Department, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and State Transport Authority (STA), with emphasis on strengthening public transport services, expansion of the e-bus fleet and improving road safety mechanisms in the city.

Present during the meeting were Sh. Diprava Lakra, IAS, Secretary Transport, Chandigarh Administration along with Joint Secretary-cum Director Transport, Secretary STA UT Chandigarh and GM, CTU.

During the meeting, it was informed that 397 buses are presently operational within Chandigarh city, while 269 buses are operating on inter-state routes. It was also apprised that 139 e-buses are currently operational and 41 additional e-buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme are expected to be inducted by June 2026.

It was further informed that procurement of 328 additional e-buses for Chandigarh has been initiated through CESL under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. The Chief Secretary directed the department to ensure advance planning and timely infrastructure readiness for smooth operation of the expanded e-bus fleet.
