Today, 5th October 2025, was the 4th day of wildlife week celebrations, and the day was started with the power of runners. ”Run for the Wild” an event of running dedicated to the wildlife conservation organized at Chhatbir Zoo. More than 200 runners for 5km and 10km ran for the noble cause. Chhatbir Zoo collaborated with the runners’ group like National flag runners, Daudta Punjab, Hansali-Run, Patiala Runners, and Fit-club for the event. Principal Chief conservator of Forests (HoFF.) cum Chief Wildlife warden, Punjab Dharminder Sharma IFS was the chief guest of the event and he flag-of the run. The winners were awarded by the chief guest.
Another event was a special awareness campaign in collaboration with Department of Zoology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana was conducted. This campaign was held with the objective of enhancing students’ practical understanding of wildlife conservation and the importance of zoology in sustaining ecological balance. A group of 50 students from B.Sc. Zoology first, second, and third year enthusiastically participated in this visit and awareness campaign. The activity was organized under the educational extension initiative of the zoo and aimed at spreading awareness among visitors regarding the importance of wildlife conservation and the role of zoological studies in understanding and protecting animal diversity. The awareness rally, organized within the zoo premises, was a major highlight of the event. Students carried banners and placards with conservation messages, interacted with visitors, and conveyed the importance of biodiversity preservation, ethical treatment of animals, and reducing human-wildlife conflict. Their active participation created a positive impact and motivated the public to take an interest in wildlife protection.
Field Director Mr. Arun Kumar expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal, H.O.D Dr. Monita Dhiman and Dr. Ramanpreet Kaur for their efforts to arrange this awareness campaign. Field Director Mr . Arun Kumar told that this campaign not only enriched the students’ academic understanding but also strengthened their commitment towards wildlife protection and sustainable coexistence.
In the continuation of zoo keeper’s talk today visitors were given an insightful overview of canine behavioral patterns and the intricate dynamics of their ecological interactions. This interactive session was specially organized in front of the Hyena ,wolves and wild dog’s exhibits. Today, 2350 visitors imbibed in the natural environment of Chhatbir Zoo said Harpal Singh, Zoo Education Officer. *Tomorrow, on 6th October, Monday, the zoo will be open for the visitors due to Wildlife week celebrations.*
