Municipal Corporation’s ongoing drive against single-use polythene: 37 challans issued, 80 kg seized

Undercover market inspections strengthened; strict action against violators enforced

Commissioner Vinay Kumar urges citizens and traders to stop using polythene and support environmental conservation


Panchkula, March 21:
 The Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, is carrying out a sustained and intensive campaign against single-use polythene. Under the directives of Commissioner Sh Vinay Kumar, enforcement actions against polythene use have been consistently strengthened across the city, reinforcing efforts toward cleanliness and environmental protection.

As part of this ongoing campaign, sanitation teams led by Joint Commissioner Smt Simranjit Kaur and Chief Sanitation Inspector Sh Anil Nain are conducting regular inspections across various markets and localities. The teams are also carrying out undercover checks by posing as customers to curb the illegal use and sale of polythene.

During recent enforcement drives, inspections were conducted at multiple locations including Sectors 6, 7, 9, 14, 16, 17, 20, and Kisan Mandi resulting in the issuance of 37 challans (fines) totaling approximately Rs 28,000. Fines ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 3,000 were imposed in various cases. Additionally, around 80 kilograms of single-use polythene were seized, with a significant quantity recovered during a targeted operation at a shop in Sector 9.

During the inspections, it was also observed at several locations that some shopkeepers abandoned their polythene stocks and fled upon spotting the Corporation team. In such cases, efforts are underway to identify the individuals involved and take action against them in accordance with the law.

The Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, has reiterated that the campaign against single-use polythene will continue, with strict action taken against all violators. The Municipal Administration urges all citizens and traders to stop using polythene and actively support efforts toward environmental conservation.
