*Review Meeting on LPG Supply and Acceleration of CGD/PNG Infrastructure*
Chandigarh, March 24, 2026:
A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sh. H Rajesh Prasad, Chief Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh on March 23, 2026 to assess the LPG supply situation in light of recent geopolitical developments and to deliberate upon communications received from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas regarding expansion of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.
Emphasizing the need for a coordinated and mission-mode approach, the Chief Secretary issued a series of directions to concerned departments and agencies.
During the meeting, it was decided to constitute a State- cum- District level Empowered Committee for expeditious approval of City Gas Distribution (CGD) applications and grievance redressal. To facilitate rapid infrastructure rollout, a “Dig and Restore” mechanism will be implemented, allowing CGD entities to undertake restoration works. Operational relaxations were also approved, permitting round-the-clock work.
Oil Marketing Companies were instructed to coordinate closely with the Department of Food and Supplies and the Deputy Commissioner’s office to ensure strict adherence to LPG quotas, prevent diversion, and maintain uninterrupted supply to priority sectors.
All commercial and industrial LPG consumers shall mandatorily apply for PNG with the City Gas Distribution entity in Chandigarh. They must take all actions required to reach a state of readiness for receiving PNG before they are eligible to be allotted any commercial LPG from the overall 50% allocation.
Residents are encouraged to adopt Piped Natural Gas (PNG) wherever available to reduce dependence on LPG, ensure a continuous and safe supply of cooking gas, and benefit from its cost-effectiveness and environmental advantages. Households and commercial establishments are also urged to register for PNG connections and actively contribute to a sustainable energy transition in the city. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Chandigarh Administration including the Home Secretary; Secretary, Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology; Special Secretary Finance; Deputy Commissioner; Special Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; Director, Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology; Chief Engineer; District Food and Supplies Officer. Also presnet during the meeting were Deputy General Manager-LPG, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.; Divisional Head-LPG, Indian Oil Corporation, Chandigarh; and GA Head, Indian Oil Adani Gas Pvt. Ltd.
