Meeting of the Governing Body of State AYUSH Society, U.T. Chandigarh, National AYUSH Mission Held

Chandigarh,

A meeting of the Governing Body of State AYUSH Society, U.T. Chandigarh, National AYUSH Mission was held under the Chairmanship of Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh today.

The meeting was held to apprise the Governing body about the status of approvals of State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) 2022-23 by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, so that, the activities mentioned in SAAP may be implemented in a time bound manner.

After detailed deliberations, the Adviser decided that:-
1) In addition to the currently running 42 yoga centres in Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs) in Chandigarh, 8 new yoga centres to be started at Community Centres in coordination with Municipal Corporation. Further, the yoga activities should be conducted in the early hours of the morning both at Community Centres and at the Health & Wellness Centres in U.T. Chandigarh.
2) Under the School Health Programme, the Yoga services currently operational in 50 schools to be extended to all Government schools in coordination with Education Department and a monitoring team to monitor these activities in collaboration with Government College of Yoga, Sector 23, Chandigarh. A proposal in this regard should also be sent to Ministry of AYUSH, GoI.
3) Efforts should be made to start 6 new AYUSH HWCs in co-location with UHWCs in co-ordination with Health Department for public convenience. It will facilitate options to the public to get benefits of both Allopathic and AYUSH at one place.
4) Panchkarma centre at AYUSH HWC, Sector 37 should be upgraded as a model Panchkarma Centre.
5) The following new AYUSH Public Health Programmes etc. are being introduced in U.T. Chandigarh within the current financial year:-
⮚ Karunya (AYUSH Palliative Services)
⮚ VAYOMITRA (AYUSH Geriatric Health Care Services),
⮚ SUPRAJA (AYUSH Maternal & Neo-natal Intervention),
⮚ AYURVIDYA promotion of Healthy Lifestyle through AYUSH for school children in 300 schools,
⮚ National Program for Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis & other Musculoskeletal Disorders.

To prevent road accidents, PWD department launches campaign to install reflectors on vehicles: Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO

– Directions issued to all state and national highway teams of the state to ensure road safety arrangements

– Amid foggy season, the Cabinet Minister urges heavy vehicles and tractor trolleys drivers to stop plying during school hours in the morning

In a bid to prevent road accidents due to dense fog, the PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO installed reflectors on vehicles at Barodi Toll Plaza located on Kurali Chandigarh road here today.

Speaking to media, on this occasion, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that it has come to fore that most of the road accidents occurred due to the lack of reflectors on the vehicles.

He said that reflectors on vehicles plays a vital role for motorists and commuters to detect the vehicle. He said that as the fog is likely to continue for the next few days, there is a threat of rising road accidents, therefore, by installing reflectors, the vehicles on the roads are visible from a distance and any untoward incidents could be avoided.

The Cabinet Minister said that he unequivocally directed concerned officials to all the state and national highway tolls in Punjab to ensure all the arrangements made regarding road safety.

He urged to the people that all should exercise caution while travelling and drive vehicles with dipper and lights on. He also told that keeping this campaign in mind, installation of reflectors on the dividers on the roads in the state has also been started.

He asked the drivers of school vans to drive with full caution, and those with heavy vehicles and tractor trolleys to try to avoid ply their vehicle in the morning when it is school time considering during the foggy season.

Deputy Chief Minister takes stock of works of RTDC

Manali,

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri chaired a review meeting of Ropeways and Rapid Transport Development Corporation HP Limited (RTDC) here today.

He took note of all ongoing projects including issues and problems being faced by the corporation. He said that the ropeway was an eco-friendly mode of transport which reduces the travel distance sufficiently as in hilly terrain one km of ropeway was equivalent to 5-6 kms of road distance.

The State Government plans to go for this eco-friendly, clean and green mode of transport in a big way, be it for decongestion of cities, providing connectivity to left out unconnected habitations or enhancing tourism potential”, he said adding that RTDC has started ground work for this project in Shimla. He directed RTDC to start operation of this project in the next five years. “This ropeway project will have a network of 14.69 km ropeways connecting 15 stations with a project cost of Rs. 1546.40 crore. This urban ropeway project will be second of its kind in world and first in India, said the Deputy CM. He further said that our Government plans to develop similar urban ropeway projects for Dharamshala and Manali towns.

Mukesh Agnihotri gave directions to RTDC for bringing the NABARD guidelines for development of ropeways in the State under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund in Cabinet meeting immediately for its approval, so that the construction of composite ropeways for providing connectivity to 329 unconnected habitations (250 plus population) as well as carriage of Agriculture and Horticulture produce could be taken up under NABARD RIDF in a big way.

He further directed RTDC to make efforts for developing atleast one ropeway per district in the next five years for providing connectivity, employment generation as well as enhancing tourism potential.

He also directed the officers to explore possibilities of developing ropeways for Mata Chintpurni and Baba Balak Nath ji temples.

Principal Secretary Transport, R.D. Nazeem, Director RTDC Ajay Sharma, Chief General Manager RTDC Rohit Thakur and other senior functionaries of the corporation were present in the meeting.

Healthy Streets Capacity Building Workshop conducted in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, December 19^th, 2022:

Chandigarh Smart City Limited & Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, organised the Second ‘Healthy Streets Capacity Building Workshop’ on 19th & 20th December, 2022 in The Lalit Hotel, in partnership with the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, ITDP, the knowledge partner, Patiala Foundation and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

Ms. Anindita Mitra IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Smart City Limited welcomed Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, Secretary Local Government, UT Administration, Chandigarh, Sh. Rahul Kapoor, Director, Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Councillors of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Mr. Sivasubramanium, National Lead Transport Systems and Electric Mobility, participants, partners from ITDP and Media for being a part of Healthy Streets Capacity Building Workshop.

“Walking and cycling are the cleanest ways to get around a city, and both can have enormous benefits for health, greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, road safety and equity. Despite it being the most environment friendly, healthy and low-cost mode of travel, cycling, for many upper-class urban Indians, is merely another way to keep fit. However, for a sizeable number of people who are employed in the informal sector, cycling is a vital component of their work lives.”, said Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, Secretary Local Government, UT Administration, Chandigarh during the inaugural session of the workshop.

Sh. Rahul Kapoor, Director, Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs said- “Through the India Cycles4Change and Streets4People Challenges, we have collectively achieved more than 500km of healthy streets in the last few years. These Challenges have helped us imagine and realise a world beyond cars. However, the real success will be when we scale up not just across, but beyond the cities enrolled under these Challenges.”

“Lately, walking, cycling, and public transport have become so rare that we find people celebrating their occasional usage on social media. We are forgetting that these were an integral part of our lifestyle earlier. So, it is crucial to explore and understand how to bring back this culture of cycling and walking, to embed it in our lifestyles, and collectively move towards healthy streets and healthy lives.”, said Mr. Sivasubramanium, National Lead Transport Systems and Electric Mobility.

Speaking about the experiential learning sessions, Ms. Anindita Mitra IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Smart City Limited, Chandigarh said- “We have planned Site visits to Capitol Complex, Sector 17 Pedestrian Underpass, Sector 17 Pedestrian Plaza & Urban Park Public Space. These pedestrian prioritised public spaces & monuments are unique jewels of Chandigarh and demonstrate how safety, health and comfort of the people are prioritised. We shall also try to demonstrate how the “neighborhood concept” in Chandigarh’s planning, promote cycling.”

She further added that the workshop is envisioned to provide site based learnings for cities. We have arranged a full-fledged cycling experience for the participants wherein they shall be able to see and experience the bicycle infrastructure, the cycling tracks, the intersections and junctions. The routes have been selected carefully to ensure that the site visit gives you a 360-degree experience of the City Beautiful.

The dignitaries unveiled the Healthy Streets Vision and Design Workbook which will guide Chandigarh to carry out strategic changes to make its streets better for everyone. Through the Healthy Streets Vision, the city will prioritise walking, cycling, and public transport to enable all citizens to access work, education, and nearby amenities easily, safely, and comfortably. The Design Workbook will guide the city on planning and implementing Healthy Streets for walking and cycling.

The workshop is being attended by over 100 city officials joining from 35+ cities across India, consisting of Smart City CEOs, Corporation Commissioners & Engineers. This workshop is the second workshop hosted for the cities who are part of the India Cycles4Change & Streest4People Challenges. ITDP India is the knowledge partner of the Smart Cities Mission for these national challenges.

The intent behind the workshop is to scale up walking and cycling transformation across the nation and accelerate progress of street design projects. The two-day capacity building workshop is focussed on how cities can create and scale up high-quality street design projects— through expert presentations and panel discussions with city officials.

The agenda of the workshop also includes knowledge-sharing sessions with cities & technical experts to facilitate peer-to-peer learning between cities. Experts from international & national organisations are leading the sessions and panel discussions with the city leaders on how cities can scale up the walking & cycling transformation across the city, finance street transformation projects, embed street design guidelines and institutionalise campaigns to create walking and cycling habits among citizens

Expedite the Works and Complete the Projects in given Timeline - Adviser on Chandigarh Master Plan Meet

Chandigarh, 13th December 2022 –

A meeting regarding the implementation of Chandigarh Master plan was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator. The top-notch officers of the Chandigarh Administration comprising Sh. Nitin Yadav, Home Secretary, Sh. Vijay N Zade, Finance Secretary, Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Smt. Anindita Mitra, Commissioner Municipal Corporation and SSP Chandigarh, Smt. Manisha Chaudhary.
The meeting highlighted various development projects of Chandigarh including heritage conservation of Capitol Complex, schools & colleges etc, upgradation of social infrastructure, physical infrastructure, development of villages, regional issues with neighbouring states. The Adviser took the progress report of the planned upcoming projects from all the major departments of the Chandigarh Administration.

Plans of upgrading the Government houses into stay homes to promote tourism in the city has also been proposed. With an aim to make Chandigarh a Cultural hub, various cultural projects like the upgradation of Beant Singh Memorial and creating of new exhibition centre was also taken up by the officials. The Administrator also announced the construction of ten new schools in the city to strengthen the education framework in the city. The work on four schools would be taken up during this financial year and the construction of other schools would be taken up gradually.
To strengthen the health infrastructure in the city, the Adviser has directed the concerned authorities to expedite the work of creation and upgrading dispensaries into the health and wellness centres, and also start the work on creation of Advanced Centre of Infectious Diseases and Regional Trauma centre at GMCH 32.

Planning and Development of various pockets of Manimajra were also discussed. Adviser stressed the need to take immediate action for development of longitudinal green belts and cycle tracks in the city. Planning Department was directed to submit action plan within a week.

The final agreement for Chandigarh 24×7 water supply project will be signed between the Municipal Corporation and French Government’s Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) on December 16 which is the most awaited project of the Corporation. The Commissioner Municipal Corporation also apprised the committee about the upgrading all the STP’s by March 2023. Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator directed the officials to expedite all the development works in a time bound manner and submit the action taken report in the next meeting.
Secretary Education, Secretary Industries, Secretary Culture, Chief Conservator of Forest, Chief Architect, Chief Engineer were also present in the meeting.

Day 2 of the Contemporary Art Festival at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh sees splendid performances

The second day of the Contemporary Art Festival organised by Infosys Foundation, Bengaluru and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, witnessed an enchanting ambience of spectacular colours and music. Sh. Rajnish Wattas, Former Principal of the Chandigarh College of Architecture, presided over the function as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries who graced the function included Ms. Nagalakshmi Rao, Member Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru Kendra, Sh. Manmohan Kohli, Chairman , Cultural Committee, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh, Ms. Neenu Vij, Member Organising Committee, Sh. Madhukar Malhotra, Secretary, Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh. Various other dignitaries and esteemed members of the Tricity’s erudite circles were also a part of the cultural bonanza.

The event started with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest. The function commenced with light classical vocal recital performed by Ms. Ishmeet and Ms. Paramjyot. The soft and soulful voices of these singers who presented mellifluous numbers in Punjabi and Hindi enraptured the audience. This was followed by melodious qawwalis sung by Mr Hardeep Kainthand troupe. As the venue reverberated with the mellifluous melodies and electrifying qawwalis,the audiences were enraptured and were left wanting more.

The second day also saw the Art Exhibition which displayed works by various artists from around the Tricity. An Art Workshop has also been set up for three days from the 9^th to 11^th for the audience. It was sheer joy to watch the artists bring their canvas to life with myriad themes and vibrant colours.

In his speech, the Chief Guest, Sh. Rajnish Wattas appreciated the efforts of the organisers and the school in providing a platform to the artists and working for the cause of art. He added that the joie de vivre of watching cultural programs was experienced after a hiatus of 2 years. He acknowledgedthe sons and daughters of this young city who enthralled the audience with their spellbinding performances, He congratulated Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh for being the torch bearer that combined the ancient with the modern, adding that this flame will glow till eternity.

The program will continue until the 15^th of December with different performances, and is being telecast live on the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh and Bengaluru YouTube channels. Entry is free for the general public on all days from 4.30 p.m. onwards.
